THIS year’s Saddleworth Beer Walk will have an Indiana Jones theme.

Saddleworth Round Table has looked to the new film, “Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull”, to come up with the name “CrystALE Skull” to complement the procession.
And the walk’s committee will set the scene by wearing Stetson hats, T-shirts and carry model leather whips — just like Indiana himself.
This year’s walk — the 35th — takes place on Saturday, May 17, and a record number of teams are set to enter.
Staged over 11.2 miles and encompassing 11 pubs and clubs, the route winds around Delph, Diggle, Dobcross Greenfield and Uppermill.
Besides a host of colourful floats, the procession will include a team of nearly 100 fund-raisers dressed as bumble bees, and a group of girls from Oldham Sixth-Form College wearing Mexican costumes.
The beer walk begins at 2pm from Churchill Playing Fields, Greenfield, and finishes around 8pm at the same place.
This year’s event committee is headed by beer walk chairman Malcolm Kilpatrick and his deputy, Richard Taylor.
Mr Taylor said: “There is huge interest in the walk. People are clamouring to enter. It is a splendid fun day and raises thousands of pounds for charity.
“We never fail to be inspired by the creative costumes and innovation that goes into the walkers’ efforts.”
Nigel Hill, the chairman of Saddleworth Round Table and who headed last year’s walk committee, said: “Everyone is looking forward to a splendid fun-filled day which is guaranteed to swell the charity coffers.”
