City boss Eriksson in media spotlight

SVEN–Goran Eriksson was expected to face a barrage of questions over his Manchester City future at a press conference at the club’s training ground at Carrington today.

Despite City chiefs cancelling Eriksson’s regular press call last week as speculation over his future intensified, the Swede was set to face the media ahead of what could prove his final match in charge.

City head to Middlesbrough to round off their season on Sunday, before Eriksson’s future is thrashed out by club owner Thaksin Shinawatra, who indicated this week his decision is far from cut and dried.

Meanwhile, Eriksson was believed to have met officials from his former club Benfica in a Manchester hotel, lending weight to suggestions that he has already plotted his escape route from Eastlands.

Eriksson will urge his players, who have been linked with a boycott of the club’s end-of-season tour of the Far East in protest at their manager’s treatment, to concentrate first and foremost on ending their campaign with a win.

UNITED should have Nemanja Vidic back for Sunday’s title decider at Wigan Athletic.

The Serbian central defender has missed the last two matches through concussion after being hurt in the league defeat at Chelsea.

Wayne Rooney could be on the bench after recovering from a hip injury.
