Roytonians get off to a winning start

ROYTONIANS Cricket Club (formerly Junction CC and Pinchito’s) have this season joined the highly-regarded North Manchester League.

Now based at the White Hart in Royton, Roytonians opted to join the North Manchester League, mainly to enable them to regularly play on the standard of wickets that are provided by their own home ground at the Lancaster Club on Broadway.

Early indications are that this has been a good move as Roytonians have completed their first two games on excellent facilties at Littleborough and Swinton Moorside.

Both games resulted in victories, with medium-pace bowlers Steve Webb and Mattie Hall taking the majority of the wickets when defending a low score of just 107 against Littleborough.

Roytonians then limited Swinton Moorside to 119 for nine, with new recruit Martin Heywood starring with figures of five for 42 before skipper Wayne Critchley (27 ret. hurt) and Russ Billing (25) led them to victory with five overs to spare.

New players/committee members can attend practice at Royton Cricket Club (the Paddock) every Wednesday at 6pm.
