Rifle Range hit the target for Ernie

CORONATION Street’s Michael Le Vell (second from left) joins other fund raisers, including Latics youth team coach Tony Philliskirk, at the Rifle Range.

ATHLETIC fans raised £4,700 for the Ernie Cooksey Appeal Fund after a day of activities at the Rifle Range, Burnley Lane.

Coronation Street actor Michael Le Vell, members of Inspiral Carpets and past Athletic players Jon Hallworth and Tony Philliskirk all supported the event.

And there was entertainment provided by comedian Venn Tracey and the Harper Brothers as the overall target could hit £5,000 with some monies yet to be collected.

The largest sum received was £1,000 for a course to qualify as a plumbing and heating engineer and which was the star raffle prize.

The overall fund has a £40,000 target to buy vital drugs, which are not available on the National Health Service, for the former Athletic player who is battling an advanced stage of cancer.

“The pub was packed all day and the turnout by Latics fans and the Oldham public was fantastic,” explained Gary Bostock, one of the organisers.

FORMER Athletic player Keith Hicks and seven of his colleagues from Rochdale Football Club’s community programme are taking part in the Greater Manchester Run on Sunday, May 18.
