Bamford’s worries continue

BAMFORD Fieldhouse’s woes were compounded with defeat in the Barclays Wealth LCB Knock-out Cup, but Stayley and Hollinwood both reached round two of the competition.

The reigning Saddleworth and District Cricket League champions lost by 52 runs to Lytham, who were bowled out for 187 at Hollin Lane.

Stayley recovered from 19 for three to beat league rivals Friarmere by five wickets at Millbrook.

Shahid Mahmood was not out 49 at the death after captain Ronnie Cameron and Paul Littlewood had each taken three wickets to restrict the visitors to 124.

Rashid Khan was the star of the show as Hollinwood, who made 190 for eight, overcame Northern by 13 runs at Lime Lane.

At 95 for one, their opponents were on course for a comfortable win, but Khan grabbed five for 49 to send John Winterbottom’s side through to the next stage.

Shaw suffered a first-round exit at the hands of Astley Bridge who, after being reduced to 40 for four, rallied to overhaul the home team’s total for the loss of five wickets.

Richard Harrington and Mike Small, with 58 and 45 respectively, were the mainstays of Shaw’s score of 168.

Scores are —

Friarmere 124 (R Cameron 3-31, P Littlewood 3-30), Stayley 126-5 (S Mahmood 49 not out); Shaw 168 (R Harrington 58, M Small 45), Astley Bridge 169-5 (K Fullalove 3-52); Lytham 187 (M Power 3-48), Bamford Fieldhouse 135 (P McKeown 48 not out); Hollinwood 190-8, Northern 177 (R Khan 5-49).

KYLE Hogg took three for 27 and struck a vital 31 as Lancashire defeated Yorkshire by three wickets in the Friends Provident Trophy.

The Greenfield all-rounder helped restrict their Roses’ rivals to 204 for seven at Old Trafford and then played an important role with the bat.

Lancashire were in trouble at 76 for five, but South African Francois Du Plessis, who finished unbeaten on 77, shared in a stand of 57 with Hogg, before Glenn Chapple hit the winnings runs.
