Wilson stars as Seals finish top

BLAKE WILSON lead the way as Oldham Amateur Swimming Club (Seals) captured the top-club award at the Central Lancashire Championship and Age Group Gala at Manchester Aquatics Centre.

Wilson (15) won golds in both the junior and senior 50m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley.

He also added bronze medals in the junior and senior 100m freestyle.

Kyle Clegg was a double gold-medal winner in the nine years 50m freestyle and breaststroke, adding a bronze in the butterfly. And in the same age group, Kiandra Basnett took bronze in the girls’ 50m butterfly.

Olivia Askew was a triple gold winner in the 10-years 50m freestyle, backstroke and butterfly with team-mate Caitlin Wareing collecting silver in the 50m backstroke.

Dylan Green was the sole medal winner in the 11-years age group with a bronze in the 50m butterfly.

Hannah Clegg struck gold in the 12-years 50m breaststroke, adding a silver in the butterfly. In the same age group, Danielle Green won bronzes in the 50m free and backstroke.

Harry Entwistle was a double gold winner in the 13-years 50m freestyle and breaststroke. Bronze medals were also won in the same age group by Ian Martin in the 50m breaststroke and Damien Bradley in the 50m fly.

In the 14-years age group, Sophie Kenny won gold in the 50m freestyle plus silver and bronze in the 100m free and 100 butterfly.

Team-mate Vicky Burgess also collected a bronze in the 50m butterfly while Ash Ratchford took silver in the 50m freestyle.

The mixed 200m freestyle relay team of Blake Wilson, Joe Griffin, Vicky Burgess and Sophie Kenny also won a bronze.


     

OLDHAM won the first of their Manchester & District Galas at Oldham Stadium.

They introduced some new competitive swimmers to their 9/10 years age group including Jasmine Newton, Georgia Cain, Kiandra Basnett, Rebecca Morton, Natasha Sabel, Joe Griffin, Kyle Clegg, Sam Ireland, Michael Entwistle and Henry Coverley.

Oldham won five of the eight relay races and came second in the remaining three to produce a final points tally of Oldham 73, Horwich 68, Radcliffe 63 and Stalybridge 45.
