Nigel ready to take on world

by MATTHEW CHAMBERS

PROMISING Bradford Bulls half-back Nigel Scott is to represent England in the forthcoming 2008 University Rugby League World Cup in Brisbane, Australia.

The 20-year-old Oldhamer, a student at Edgehill University, will fly out at the end of June for what he describes as a “massive experience”.
The tournament contains eight sides, split into two groups. England will play matches against Australia, Scotland and Greece, while in the other half, New Zealand, France, Ireland and Wales do battle.
The top two sides from each group will then progress to the semi-finals.
Scott warmed up for his big trip by scoring a try in England Students’ 25-24 defeat to BARLA Great Britain under-23s on Tuesday evening.
England missed out despite leading by six points on four separate occasions, eventually succumbing to a drop goal eight minutes from time.
Scott is currently seeking sponsorship to help contribute to the cost of his involvement in the World Cup. He can be contacted on (0161) 6274839 or by email at 20164505@edgehill.ac.uk
HIGGINSHAW are on the lookout for a new coaching team for next season, following the departure of Craig Dickinson and Jason Donbavand after two seasons in charge.

Higgy, who are thankful for the work put in by the pair, are asking interested parties to apply in writing to secretary John Mellor at 19 Penwell Fold, Sandringham Park, Oldham, OL1 2UB.
The club is taking part in the annual Blackpool Sevens tournament on Sunday, May 25, in Stanley Park.
Higginshaw will be running coaches to the event and anyone interested in coming along to support can contact the club on (0161) 6262009 or John Mellor on 07970 100606.
SEAN Stubbs grabbed a hat-trick of honours in Higginshaw’s end-of-season ceremony, picking up the most improved, players’ player and coaches’ player awards.

The pverall player of the year honour, as voted by opposition coaches, was split between David Hewson and Paddy Jennings, with Hewson also claiming the young player award and John Duffy gaining a trophy as a result of being the top try scorer.
