Lauren leads way as Royton romp home

ROYTON Swimming Club came out on top in the first event of this year’s Central Lancashire Jubilee Galas.

They scored 139 points to finish clear of Ramsbottom (107pts), Rochdale (100) and Dukinfield (72).

Royton won 23 of the 42 races and four of those victories went to Lauren Shaughnessy in the 12-years butterfly, freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke.

There were wins for Bradley Ratcliffe in the 11-years butterfly and freestyle and 12-years freestyle.

Jack Slater won the boys 13-years freestyle and backstroke and there was also a double success for Jack Graham in 11 and 12-years backstroke and a victory for Bradley Hannah in the 10-years breaststroke.

Jennifer Kerr finished first in the 11-years backstroke and there were further victories for Olivia John in the 10-years breaststroke, Rebecca Owens in the 10-years backstroke and Luke Graham in the 13-years butterfly.

The boys 11-years team of Jack Graham, Josh Ivell, Bradley Ratcliffe and Jacob Kinsella won both the medley and freestyle relays.

There were also two wins for the 13-years relay team which comprised Lewis Bostock, Luke Graham, Jack Bennett and Jack Slater.

The girls 13-years team of Bethany John, Jessica Cooke, Lauren Shaughnessy and Beth Wolfenden won both the medley and freestyle relays.

The final victory went to the boys canon relay team of Bradley Hannah, Jack Graham, Bradley Ratcliffe and Jack Slater.

Royton also made a flying start to their Manchester and District Programme ‘A’ Gala, another event with an impressive victory.

They scored 114 points to finish clear of Stretford (107) and Stalybridge (104). Eccles, who were due to compete, failed to raise a team.

There were two wins apiece in the 12/13 years category for Luke Graham in the breaststroke and butterfly and Lewis Bostock in the freestyle and backstroke.

Bradley Ratcliffe also landed a double in the 11-years freestyle and butterfly, while Rebecca Owens and Alice Kay were victors in the 10-years freestyle and breaststroke respectively.

Josh Ivell won the 11-years breaststroke and Jennifer Kerr the backstroke.

The girls 9/10 years relay team of Olivia John, Chloe Barnes, Roisin Campbell O’Donnell and Rebecca Owens clinched first place in the freestyle relay, while Jack Graham, Josh Ivell, Bradley Ratcliffe and Dylan Green were victors in the 11-years freestyle and medley relays.

There was also success for the 12/13 years medley and freestyle relay teams which was made up of Lewis Bostock, Luke Graham, Chris Thomas and Sam Wood.

In their opening gala in the Central Lancashire Intermediate League, Royton defeated Chadderton 178-139.
