Junior basketball
SADDLEWORTH School Year Eight basketball team have completed a remarkable treble of trophies.
The boys, many of whom also play for the school’s successful rugby league team, have won the Oldham Schools’ cup and league trophies and added the Lancashire Schools’ title by defeating Canon Slade School (Bolton) in a pulsating match.
Tied 48-48 at the final whistle, Saddleworth went on to win the cup in overtime 52-50 despite leading players Ben White and Chris Bolton being fouled out of the game.
Jack Leigh scored the all-important winning basket with only a few seconds remaining on the clock.
