Join in the opening celebrations of the new Lees Park Environment, Community and Opportunities (ECO) Centre.

The ECO Centre will be unveiled on Saturday 24 March at the site of the former bowling green and cabin on Kingsley Drive, with a range of stalls and family activities lined-up to mark the occasion (1-4pm)

The main purpose of the centre will be to grow organic fruit and vegetables and to facilitate a range of courses on topics such as healthy eating. The centre will also be used to educate residents on all aspects of sustainable living, the environment, wildlife, energy efficiency, renewable energy and water management. Residents and community groups will have access to a wide range of facilities at the centre including; vegetable plots, poly tunnels, a wildlife pond, composting area and a classroom.

The site has undergone a huge transformation from its previous life as a bowls green, and this comes as part of the Get Oldham Growing (GOW) programme. GOW aims to get communities in Oldham active and engaged in food growing, to improve health and develop opportunities for new social businesses in the local food economy.
