SCUNTHORPE 1, ATHLETIC 0

SCOTT  Wiseman's late goal was enough for the league leaders to see off 10-man Athletic.

The ex-Rochdale full-back struck from the edge of the area, via a post, just when it appeared Athletic might hang on for a point following the 65th-minute loss of Paul Green for two yellow cards.

Kevin van Veen had earlier appeared to hit the inside of the stanchion, the ball bouncing out with nothing given, as the hosts charged back after being dominated by the visitors in the first half.

Wiseman also hit a post and Tom Hopper had a header disallowed for offside in the second half

Athletic started brightly and went on to dominate the first half against the league leaders, crafting chance after chance.

Billy Mckay could not find the target when faced with an open goal on the half-hour, Ryan Flynn was twice denied by Luke Daniels when in on goal and Ollie Banks's free-kick on half-time had the Iron goalkeeper diving to his left to palm it away for a corner.

Banks saw his drive tipped over as Athletic pushed to level in added time, but Stephen Robinson's side could not break through.
