I know this can work again - Shez

EXACTLY a year to the day since he was last installed into the Athletic hot seat, John Sheridan is back, appointed this time to replace Stephen Robinson on a two-and-a-half year deal.

Sheridan (52) was re-introduced at a busy press conference, where the twice former SportsDirect.com Park boss admitted that he was a lucky man.

"I am very fortunate to have been asked back," admitted Sherdan.
"Another club had been in touch since I left Notts County.

"This is a good move for me and the club, though. We know one another and I know this can work again.

"People keep telling me how hard it is here, but it's not a difficult job if you start winning games.

"That's what I hope to get the team doing again, and of course I've done that before.

"Then it's just about keeping that momentum going."

Sheridan confirmed that current assistant manager Ian Baraclough and goalkeeping coach Carlo Nash will be on the Athletic bench directing tomorrow as the team host Gillingham in Sky Bet League One.

Sheridan serves out the last game of a five-match touchline ban imposed on him when he was still manager at Notts County.

He was sacked from Meadow Lane on January 2 after presiding over a nine-match losing streak.

More from Sheridan in Monday's Chronicle.
