Latics eyes on wing men

ATHLETIC may move to bring in the two new wingers who have impressed while on trial in the past week.

Belgian starlet Gyamfi Kyeremeh (22) and the more experienced Cameron Stewart (26) both added thrust to the club's attacks in the last two pre-season matches at home against Girona and a Manchester United XI.

Kyeremeh particularly caught the eye against the La Liga side with his darting runs and close control. He most recently played in the German fourth tier with Eintracht Braunschweig II.

Stewart, a former Manchester United trainee who missed the whole of last season after being released by Ipswich, was on trial with Charlton earlier this month.

He looked sharp from wide on the right against United and has a pedigree featuring plenty of Championship experience with Hull, Burnley, Blackburn, Charlton and Leeds.

With both players, Sheridan indicated that fitness would be a major concern when it comes to the possibility of offering contracts.

"Cameron Stewart has been a good player and has played at good clubs at a high level. At this moment in time, Cammy is looking for a club and he will continue to train today and we will see what the situation is," said Sheridan.

"He shows good glimpses of what he can do - and I know what he can do anyway.

"Gyamfi hasn't done anything wrong either. He looks sharp and again, he is still getting used to us. He has trained with us but pre-season wise, I don't know about how close he is to the level we are trying to achieve.

"But he has great balance and looks elegant running with the ball.

"I will look at it and if I feel they can benefit us, I will make a decision. If I want to try to bring them in then I will do that."

Sunderland yesterday completed the signing of goalkeeper Robbin Ruiter on a two-year contract.

That deal could pave the way for Athletic to move to bring in Black Cats 'keeper Max Stryjek on loan.

Other options available to Sheridan ahead of the opening Sky Bet League One clash with Oxford are Ben Wilson, the Cardiff goalkeeper who played the opening half against United on Tuesday, or the more experienced Kyle Letheren who featured after the break in the same game.
