AARON Amadi-Holloway finally feels ready to hit the ground running.

This is the first time the 24-year-old has enjoyed a pre-season free of injury worries, having endured a series of minor setbacks last term following his permanent move to Athletic.

"I feel the fittest I have been for a while and it's the first pre-season I have done so far without picking up an injury," said the former Wycombe and Fleetwood forward (pictured).

"I've scored a couple of goals as well, which always helps with the confidence. Even if they are just tap-ins.

"Hopefully, I can keep it up now, as last season was frustrating."

Amadi-Holloway scored in the behind-closed-doors game at Swindon and also netted a lovely flicked finish in a 1-1 draw at Curzon Ashton.

It's vital that he stays on his toes, given the competition for a striking berth. Craig Davies has returned to the club having enjoyed an excellent scoring record in the past under John Sheridan and Courtney Duffus has already provided telling glimpses of a goal-hungry striker who isn't afraid to knock around more experienced defenders.

MIX

Tope Obadeyi is another player in the mix to start games up front but for Amadi-Holloway, the battle for places is a positive for all concerned.

"That's how it is meant to be," he said. "Any striker will welcome other players in the same position with open arms.

"If they can get a few goals and help me to get a few goals too, then it's happy days."
