Latics beer is a glorious success

FORMER Latics manager Andy Ritchie returned to Boundary Park to help the club celebrate the success of its charity beer.

Latics Glory has been on sale at pubs throughout Oldham since the start of the season, with 10p from every pint going to the club’s community fund.

Fans’ favourite Andy paid a visit to his former workplace to present a cheque for £200 to Latics chief executive Alan Hardy, along with Tony Hulme, of Glossop micro-brewery Howard Town which produces Latics Glory.

Plans are now afoot to sell Latics Glory in bottles at off-licences and through the Latics website after the beer won a blind taste test against Stockport County’s ale.

Fans from both teams took part in the taste test before Latics faced Stockport on the pitch. Latics Glory trashed Stockport’s The Ghost Ale by 6-0, sealing its place as the beer of choice for football fans.

Tony said: “It’s obviously a winner with the fans but unfortunately until now they’ve not been able to get their hands on much of it.

“With increased production and more outlets we’ll be able to give them what they want, and raise much more money for Oldham children.”

Latics Glory is based on the brewery’s Wren’s Nest bitter which won the supreme champion prize in the Society of Independent Brewers Awards 2007.
