Latics look at Trotman loan

ATHLETIC are believed to be exploring the possibility of re-signing one of their former players, Neal Trotman.
I understand there is a chance Athletic could land the 22-year-old central defender on a season-long loan.
Since Trotman joined Preston North End from Athletic in a £500,000 deal in January 2008, he has been bedevilled by injury and made only three first-team appearances.
Trotman has recovered from a succession of problems and spent a month on loan at League One rivals Colchester towards the end of the campaign which has just ended.
He made six appearances for the U’s and declares that he is finally over his injury blues.
Trotman still has two years left on his contract at Preston and says he is looking forward to returning to Deepdale fully fit for pre-season training.
But, as his opportunities are likely to be limited, especially after barely playing for the last 18 months, Preston may favour allowing him to leave to get a full season under his belt.
Trotman, released by Burnley as a youngster, was offered the chance to resurrect his career at Boundary Park and his first season saw him loaned to non-league Halifax Town for part of the campaign.
That experience held him in good stead as he broke into the first team early in the 2007/08 season and, after only 24 eye-catching first-team appearances, was sold to Preston in January 2008.
Meanwhile, Stefan Stam is confident he will soon be fixed up with a new club after recently being released by Athletic.
The 29-year-old Dutch defender has revealed he has already had interest from a number of teams.
Stam, who had been at Boundary Park almost four-and-a-half years, intends to return to English football.
“I have had interest from clubs in League One and League Two as well as from Holland though, ideally, I would like to come back here,” he said.
Stam admitted he is sad to be leaving after being at Boundary Park for so long.
“I had been really happy with Latics, but maybe the time had come for a change and to find a new environment,” he said.
THE deadline for discounted Latics season tickets is noon tomorrow.
Comments
I agree with spike. A fully fit Trotman is a great addition to any team. Lets hope he comes back.
What is the exact purpose of OS and RG or anyone else for that matter commenting on these pages? Permit me to have a stab at it. They are reacting to an article or some comments to an article they have read in The Cron. The professional journalist who writes the articles informs the readers of what is going on at BP. This information will be based on official press releases, off the record comments, insight, rumour and the writers own poetic licence. All, to create interest and encourage debate!
When OS or RG post a comment who are they addressing? WHAT REACTION ARE THEY LOOKING FOR? We can accept negative or positive comments based on actual happenings. That is opinion! It is also valid that WE are able to criticise what SOME of us deem to be a flawed point of view. Examples from some contributors are: ‘We are going to sign half the Darlington team’. ‘We are going to have half a non-league team’. ‘The board treat us like idiots’. ‘Kennedy has signed for Rochdale instead of us’.
All these comments without a scrap of evidence! It has not bypassed most of us that Purdie and Worthington came in without any warning. Dave Penney has the experience and potential to do very well for us on the budget available. Most fans appreciate that! It is pretty clear already that he is not going to suffer the inadequate. When it comes to making signings, NONE OF US HAVE A CLUE! Constructive debate is welcome. Baseless twaddle is not, being right 9 times out of 10 is a perfect example.
mikeymike1 Firstly who made you editor ?
Secondly, neither OS or RG commented on this article, so why mention their names.
Thirdly, the whole point of a message board is to promote debate.
As for twadle I suggest you refere to th old adage "People who live in glasshouses shouldn't throw stones"
apologies mikeymike, i didnt realise i had to go through yourself and spike and the rest to put my OPINION on here. please forward me your email address so you can confirm your approval on any future comments! the most ironic thing is ive been a season ticket holder for 20 years, & i go to most away games. If anybody has a right to moan or gossip them its the likes of myself.so deal with it.Im not looking for reaction, im merely expressing an opinion. thats why this area is called 'have your say'
I apologise for posting on the wrong board. I apologise for coming out with a load of drivel. I resign as self appointed editor with immediate effect. I am sorry, sorry, sorry! Now! can we please get back to the normal intellectually measured opinions and friendly banter for the forthcoming season. We could start by giving a warm welcome to the lads from Darlington and The Blue Square. Oh heck! Here we go again!!!!
Have Your Say

Trotman would be a welcome return, providing he can prove his fitness, prior to signing.
Others around here will probably disagree.....
