Taylor target for rival clubs

CHRIS TAYLOR’S future at Athletic is once again the focus of attention with the transfer window shutting next Tuesday.

The 22-year-old winger continues to be courted by clubs, with Leeds United heading the queue of admirers.

It is understood Leeds are keen to sign a wide player to reinforce their bid for promotion from Coca-Cola League One.

Leeds have been represented at both Athletic’s home games and they have money burning a hole in their pockets following the big-money sale of England under-21 international Fabian Delph to Aston Villa.

Taylor was linked with Leeds last season as well as with Blackpool, Doncaster, Reading, Sheffield United and Wolves.

Athletic have rejected one substantial bid for the Springhead-based player, who has been a first-team regular for the last three-and-a-half years.

Taylor’s more immediate concern, however, is trying to shake off the niggling groin strain which has hampered him in recent weeks.

And with Athletic not having a midweek match for the first time so far this season, Taylor has been given a cortisone injection to try to help cure the problem.

Taylor usually finds that after an hour his groin muscle starts to tighten and that is the reason why he has been substituted towards the end of games.

Joe Jacobson and Rob Purdie, both ruled out with stomach-muscle problems, have also been given injections.

It is hoped former Wales under-21 international Jacobson’s injury will respond to the treatment. There had been fears he might need surgery to repair a suspected hernia.

Purdie, who was hurt in the extra week’s training the players did at the beginning of June, is recovering well and ought to soon be able to resume full training.

Athletic are still waiting to hear from a specialist what course of treatment forward Deane Smalley needs to overcome a back problem which has kept him on the sidelines since pre-season.

We've got to do everything to keep Chris Taylor, but if they are going to sell him to Leeds make sure its worth the sale, don't forget Leeds got £7 million for Fabien Delph so they're not exactly skint, And may i say well done for getting rid of Byfield, but thats 3 strikers gone in a week and of the 3 we have left one is only here for a month, or will Ryan Brooke then get his chance don't forget he was the one that got us our only 3 points of the last 9 games of last season

Ask Chris Taylor if he wants to leave, if he does fine, no one can blame anyone for trying to better themselves, let's hope that this time the Directors ask for a proper fee as we are getting a reputation of giving away quality players at bargain prices !

Ask a decent fee?, this lot are "CLUELESS" Leeds got a decent fee for Fabian Delph, I rate Taylor almost just as good. I bet these clowns at BP sell him for less than a quater of the fee payed for Delph. this clubs run as a joke so why not continue the trend.

OLDHAM SCOTLAND -- GO AND SUPORT SOMEONE ELSE. YOU ARE SO UNWANTED AS A SUPPOSED OLDHAM FAN.
ONE DAY THE CLUB OR SOMEONE MIGHT DO SOMETHING RIGHT IN YOUR EYES.

Are those the same 'clowns' have kept the club in existence for the last 5 years?

Think before you type in future.

other clubs are aware that Latics are on a tight budget and therefore cannot afford to reject any offers made for the players I agree that the club should do all they can to keep players of Chris taylors quality but the books have to balance and the fans should applaud the board not pillorie them as Oldham scotland seems to do every time he posts a comment on this site

Latics have always had a history of selling cheap ever since Denis Irwin to ManU for 600,000. Other decent players like Porter and Hughes go for nothing. And the board complain of having no money. Leeds are in the same division and can get 7 million for Delph, yet watch us get no more than 1 million for Taylor.

Get a grip, nearly every club gets a decent fee for decent players, with the exception of us, we sell on the cheap or the clueless mob at the club don't read their contracts and they waltz out for nothing. I know we are and always have been a selling club i have followed the club since i was 8, so why do other clubs sell on our players for three times more than we do?. I am sure if it was your home your selling no doubt you would be happy at the outcome?, I think not.

As for the garbage they saved the club, it does not wash any more, not with me. They thought they saw a quick profit, not for the interest of the club, but for themselves and now 5 years later on i am glad it has backfired. This club and the standard of football continues to decline so why should i be grateful.
