Crunch time for Latics
Reporter: Matthew Chambers
Date online: 25 February 2010
LATICS LIFE: BEWARE the ides of March.
Athletic are heading into a busy month of six matches hoping not to have hopes of staying up crushed by rivals also trying to avoid the drop.
Any defeats will prove costly — not only as they will mean Athletic fail to pick up points themselves, but also because of the boost such results will give to teams around them.
Three of the six fixtures next month are against the clubs — Exeter, Wycombe and Stockport — currently sitting below Dave Penney's side in the League One table.
Brighton are within touching distance, two points clear of Athletic but having played a pair of matches more in 18th.
And Leyton Orient, up in 15th place, are not out of the relegation picture completely, with the remaining match a rearranged clash with 12th-placed Brentford. It promises to be a tense month but with four of those six matches being home games, manager Dave Penney will be banking on his side finding their feet at Boundary Park to climb out of danger.

Penney 'banking on on his side'! The only thing he is banking is his salary which is far too much whatever he is getting. Any other manager, with his record, would be 'on his bike' by now.
Hopefully a certain someone will be gone before the commencement of this crunch month.
I'm as disgusted at the way things presently are at the club as anyone, don't want to move from Boundary Park and certainly not out of Oldham but the fact remains and ammypam with others should remember that whatever their failings the owners were the only people willing to put money in and save us from oblivion when we were in administration. Apart from Sheridan they've appointed 3 shocking managers in Talbot, Moore & Penny but remember without them we wouldn't even be in a position to moan!
i agree blueboy unless anyone is willing to dip into thier own pockets then they should not expect anyone else to do it.especially when only 3000 fans turn up each week.
The excuses of bad luck, rub of the green and good opposition will not wash in March. Dave Penney has one month to save Latics from the relegation trap door - and save his job! The clock is ticking!
But the fact remains that the fans are moaning so much because of the mess the club finds itself in - and we all know who's to blame.
Ides of March - weren't they a band in the 70s who had a hit with Vehicle? Thinking of vehicles, 'Taxi for Mr Penney. One way! Maybe we should all beware the Ides of March? Not looking good at the moment.
