Nardiello set to step straight into team

ATHLETIC boss Dave Penney is likely to throw new loan signing Daniel Nardiello into tomorrow’s crucial League One basement battle at Exeter.

Signed until the end of the season from Blackpool, the 27-year-old striker is expected to play alongside nine-goal top scorer Pawel Abbott.

That means he would get the nod ahead of another on-loan forward, Jason Price, who - providing he does not pick up an injury this weekend - is likely to have his stay at Boundary Park extended by another month.

A former Manchester United player and scorer of 36 goals in 156 league appearances, Nardiello had a loan spell with League Two promotion contenders Bury before Christmas, finding the back of the net four times in six games.

Said Penney: “We are delighted to have another striker on board, which will give us some different options

“Danny is out of contract in the summer and it gives him the chance to shine here - or for whoever is watching - and earn himself a deal for next season.”

In a clear hint that the striker had been impressing in training and was ready for a place in the starting line-up at Exeter, Penney said: “They are all great in training putting the ball in the back of the net, but it’s what happens when they cross that white line which counts. We will find out on Saturday.”

Athletic certainly need to find goals from somewhere.

They are the division’s lowest scorers with 24 and have failed to score in their last three games, albeit against the top three sides, Colchester, Leeds and Norwich.

However, it was only the Leeds away game which saw Athletic outplayed and the side travel to the south-west tomorrow with a much-needed victory in their sights.

Said Penney: “We don’t go anywhere looking for a draw. We will go there nice and positive and take the game to them.”

Good Luck Danny...hope you get some kind of service....

'did i read right?!! " We will go there nice and POSITIVE!"

'Makes a refreshing change to see the glass half full for once..

'come on Oldham stop messing about now and get 3 points from this game!'

If we get relegated do you think they will sack Penney then?

Well Dave you've gotta do something to stop them going to League 2, let's hope this can turn things around. I do though suspect that John Sheridan will laughing his head off right now, least under him we were in the top half of the table.

ITS ABOUT TIME TO KICK START THE SEASON EH

A bury fan I know says Nardiello is not too bad, so lets hope for the best. If we do stay up they will keep Penney and you will have anoyther year like this one. If we are to ever be half decent again, we need to get rid of this management team. But I am not holding my breath!

As Elvis once sang 'ITS NOW OR NEVER' lets hope its 'Now' so 'COME ON OLDHAM !!!' 3 points on Saturday nothing less will do!

Now is the time to get 3 points. My head says Penney ha signed nardiello to try and save his job but nardiello's goals scoring isn't exactly fantastic. The club are looking to be seen that they are doing something. It's a bit too late for me as it shud have happened months ago.yet hope it works for the sake of our future. 3 points at Exeter or taxi for penney.

GOOD BYE DAVE PENNY! 1 nil down already...........

Another game where yet our strikers fail to score, time you left Penney can't even beat Exeter City

Oh, dear only a last minute penalty miss by Exeter saved Latics from another defeat. The team scored a goal but it was not one from the 'strikers'. This was a game Latics should have won but the performance was (and I am going off independent reports) drab and poor. The saga continues!
Next tactic Mr Penney?

My question to the owners......Why is Penney still manager today?

Why is he still manager? Don't expect any answers soon. The club complained they couldn't communicate with the council but, yet, they rarely communicate with the fans.

Firstly, DramaSingapore, apologies however I didnt intend to insult you, I just feel that at times like these we all need to try to be positive in the situation we find ourselves in. I like you have been a latic for some 40 yrs and it really upsets me to witness the demise of our club. With regards to DP, well if it wasnt for bad luck, he wouldnt have any at all. Change of manager?, I dont think so, not as this point in the season, it didnt work last season with the re-appointment of the messiah

Mr H - apologies accepted. Even though I live in Singapore it still rattles me when Latics lose (or even draw) and I think that says something about the affinity Latics supporters have with the club. Even Singaporeans (who love the EPL) remember Latics in the 'big time' and mention Big Joe and Andy Ritchie with fondness.

Oops! That last reply should have been to Mrpositive not to Mr H.

Good result last night (Tuesday) but not out of the woods by a long way and I hope that the board don't keep DP on even if the team survive in the division. He,seemingly, has no respect for the supporters anyway.

Will the team now string a run together or maintain their consistent inconsistency?
