Double striker blow for Latics

ATHLETIC will today renew efforts to bring in a striker on loan — after revealing that a deal for a new player was scuppered on the eve of the Leyton Orient match.

A deal for the forward, whose identity is being kept under wraps, was agreed between the clubs only for the player to turn down the switch on Tuesday.

And that blow was compounded by the enforced loss of on-loan Blackpool striker Daniel Nardiello, who was carried off injured in the second half of the Orient win at Boundary Park.

The former Manchester United man has had a scan and the club’s medical staff are awaiting the results amid fears that Nardiello has sustained a torn hamstring which would keep him out of action for at least six weeks.

From possibly having two new front men on board, Penney is currently left once again with limited striking options ahead of the visit of Wycombe to Boundary Park.

One Athletic player who is pressing for a place in that game, at least on the bench, is Ryan Brooke.

The 19-year-old scored for the reserves yesterday in a 2-0 away win at Morecambe.

The goal, off a Tom Eaves cross, put Athletic one up after half-time and the lead was doubled when substitute Kirk Millar fired home from inside the six-yard box with five minutes left.

Midfielder Jon Worthington completed the full 90 minutes for the second team, his second game in two days after coming off the bench for the final two minutes against Orient.

Worthington’s last senior appearance was previously against Southampton in October, when he was carried off the pitch after sustaining an ankle ligaments injury which required reconstructive surgery.

Defender Hasney Aljofree also played the full game for the reserves as Lee Duxbury’s men completed successive wins.

Elsewhere in League One, Jason Price, who left the club earlier this week to return to Millwall, has now joined Carlisle until the end of the season.

The 32-year-old could line up against Athletic when the teams meet at Brunton Park on Saturday, April 17.

Can't get a loanee? Mm! Is it the club or DP who is the stumbling block? It would be just the club's if Price played for Carlisle and scored the winner. Musn't tempt fate though.

Another Oldham Athletic secret everyone knows.
Febian Earlston Brandy is the player we have tried to sign time and time only for him to say NO !

Time for Penney to look at other players, we havent signed a Huddersfield Town reject for a while, maybe look at the Reserves there again ???

Oldham Athletic are an absolute joke, they tell us Jason Price was recalled to millwall due to injuries up front, thats funny Jason Price signed for Carlisle today until the end of the season, no wonder the fans are staying away

not good news at all if we carnt get any one in let ryan brooke have is chance his fast & can score weve all seein this ok he aint bangin them in but compare him to the loan strikers we brought in why carnt ryan do a better job coz he canrt do a worse one

So who is telling stories now ?... yet another B.P. Farce, Millwall wanted to keep him as they are short of players ?..

Then technical difficulties ??? like who and how much we if we paid him ?

Then cap it all Price goes to Carlisle until the end of the season !

Perhaps Mr Penney realised that Jason is a midfielder and most certainly not or has ever been a STRIKER whom Mr Penney continues his elusive search for !... now 5 months and almost 2 weeks, the man has some really negative ideas.

Price wasn't available then days after, turns up at Carlisle. Seems a bit odd; but what's new at Boundary Park these days?

Surely Lewis Alessandra is a viable option to start the game on Saturday instead of Brooke or Eaves, neither of whom are really ready to be first team starters.

Hopefully someone will be brought in, but maybe Alessandra should be given the chance instead of some other club's cast-off.

Jaason Price recalled to Milwall then suddenly signs for carlisle til the end of the season, I think I have recollections of this happening before in the not too distant past with a certain Paul Heffernan, are these loan players trying to tell the club something? Lets just persevere with what we've got and give the youngsters a chance, dale stephens has already shown that you just need to be given the opportunity.

more lies again, how come i read oldham wanted to keep jason price for the remainder of the season but millwall wanted him back as cover due to neil harris being injured.
then hes farmed out to carlisle for the rest of the season.
why? could it be he has had enough of mr penneys tactics as well

Dave P, please do the decent thing and walk - you cant be enjoying this either - and its really bad for us fans too.

TTA - please take steps to get some spirit and poisitivity back into the club - start with dropping DP et al.

Isn't it obvious to all you conspiracy theorists?

Nardiello signs, Price gets shoved out on the right of midfield because Penney thinks Smalley/Colbect aren't up to the job.

Price is unhappy, as he prefers a striker's role and asks his parent club to recall him.

Penney will probably play Smalley up front with Abbott, and play Colceck on the right of midfield.

Aleesandra is as good as anyone we have had in on loan if not better. i dont believe he is good enough to be in a top league 1 team but he is more than up playing against cack like wycombe. i believe no body can be judged without playing 6 or seven consecutive games. something o grady only got at rochdale and look whats happened there.same with gail platt stephens for us.

Last minute penalty saves Latics against fellow strugglers. Not good enough DP. Have you packed your bags yet? Some good deals for (one-way) flights I hear.

Brill let (and I quote from a BBC Website) 'a weak shot squirm throug his grasp' for the second Wycombe goal. So nothing different there then - the consistent inconsistency continues.
