Away-day form lifts Poyet’s Seagulls

BOUNDARY PARK ROUNDUP: ATHLETIC are set for a stern examination of their credentials when Brighton make the long trip north.

The Seagulls, occupying 15th spot in the League One table, have accumulated no less than six wins and eight draws on the road this season, losing only four times.

Albion have also found the net on 26 occasions away from the Withdean Stadium — a record only bettered in the division by top two Norwich City and Leeds United.

One danger man for Brighton is the familiar figure of Glenn Murray. The former Stockport County and Rochdale striker, who moved south in a deal worth £300,000, is Albion’s second-top scorer with 13 goals this season and didn’t play when Athletic visited the Withdean and won 2-0 in October due to suspension.

The other forward who will need to be marshalled tightly by Athletic centre-backs Sean Gregan and Reuben Hazell is Nicky Forster.

Now in his 18th season in professional football, the 36-year-old former Brentford and Reading forward has hit 16 goals so far this season, including one in the 3-0 home win over Brentford on Tuesday night.

Midfielder Kazenga Lua-Lua, on loan from Newcastle United, scored twice against Athletic’s youth team last season in the FA Youth Cup.

All but one one of Brighton’s six away wins have come under the guidance of manager Gus Poyet, who was appointed in November following the sacking of Russell Slade.

When Poyet — formerly assistant boss at Leeds and Tottenham — arrived on the south coast following the sacking of Russell Slade, the Uruguayan joined a club hovering on the edge of the relegation zone with only 14 points from 15 matches played.

They now have an eight-point cushion away from the bottom four, one better off than Athletic having played a match more.

Athletic are searching for a second league double of the season, having picked the first up last week against Leyton Orient.

Strange! No 'quote' (or rather predictable 'advance excuse') from DP in the article. Do you think he's been reading the posts?

im with you though seems were the minority now drama.
eh what a difference a few points make.
DP still is not the man for me

Drama and Funkster, sitting in a tree, K.I.S.S.I.N.G.............

We all want the same things for the club - stabilty, a good manager, decent players and a desire to win on the pitch. Those who ae happy with the present sitution would be happy with anything. Where's the ambition? The only ambition I see is a desire to build houses not a good squad.

drama and funkster, get a room please.

Here we go again rg2403 moaning at people voicing opinions but not at the club's mis-management. Poor lad. I hope you have a good weekend and the team wins. That will mnake you think that all problems are solved no doubt.

mentalmickey - is that a name used for a reason? Seeing as I don't know Funkster it would be hard to sit on a tree with him - especially as I live about 8,000 miles away. Still, if it makes you feel happy to come out with childish comments then I'm sorry for you. This si a thread comments about Latics (positive or negative) not for inane drivel.

TODAYS GAME AGAINST BRIGHTON ,TWO BAD SIDES ,OLDHAM BEING THE WORST. ABSOLUTE GARBAGE, ASHAMED TO SAY I AM A SUPPORTER. NO FAITH IN PENNEY, CAN'T KEEP THE FAITH MUCH LONGER WHILE PENNEY'S THE MANAGER. CROWD SING PENNEY OUT AND THICK SKINNED PENNEY JUST SHRUGS HIS SHOULEDERS. WE ALL KNOW HE DOESENT GIVE A MONKEY'S BECAUSE HE SAID SO. GET HIM OUT AND PLEASE LISTEN TO THE FANS FOR ONCE BECAUSE WITHOUT THE FANS YOU WONT NEED A NEW STADIUM

rg2403 and mentalmickey.
Comment sensibly if you want to comment at all - be constructive or don't bother to post.

Now - DP (BBC WEBSITE) states (again): "If you don't put the ball in the back of the net you're not going to win games"(How many times as he said that?).

"Players' heads went down and body language was poor"

That was your manager speaking not a disgruntled fan. Face up to it - the club is struggling and no amount of insults thrown about by you will change that.

We can always pray. But I did here somewhere that God might be a Red. Now that would be all we need.

It's going to be a hard slog the next few weeks and someone has to make decisions for next season NOW!!!! No matter where the club finishes the management team (at least) must go. The performances are unacceptable.
