Athletic swoop on striker

Reporter: Kevin Richardson
Date online: 30 July 2010

ATHLETIC manager Paul Dickov has boosted his frontline options with the capture of Irishman Dean Kelly on a six-month contract.

The 24-year-old striker impressed the Boundary Park chief during a trial and joins the npower League One outfit from the Irish amateur scene.

Kelly scored 30 goals for Crumlin United in the Leinster Senior League last season following a successful spell at Tolka Rovers.

After leaving Crumlin in the summer in the aim of breaking into the professional ranks, he has recently worked as a builder in Dublin and also had a trial at Shamrock Rovers.

He has represented the Republic of Ireland in the amateur European Championships.

Just heard Pav has gone to Charlton for a nominal fee ie. peanuts. According to Dickov we are 'blessed for strikers' (yes, but Abbott was the only one who knew where the back of the net was!?!) so I'm sure we'll be pushing for promotion this season - NOT! Let's hope the unknown Irish amateur we've signed will do the business ... Good Luck Pav, you're better than this shower at Boundary Park.

I was speaking to someone who played alongside him and he is putting a few bob on him finishing top scorer next season

Dream on, Pav being top scorer in league 1 save your money, yes he scored 13 goals for us but 6 were penalties so thats 7 from open play.

bex thats a bit harsh, i agree i would have kept hold of pav if he wanted to stay but he didnt once he knew charlton were interested.
dickov has contingency plans im sure and lets face it pav was ok but not great one of the better apples in the barrell but it was a bad barrell im sure you will agree

chaddyender i think markhotte was on about the irish kid not pav lol

I was refering to Dean Kelly he may be dreaming but it's something worth mentioning
