Latics swoop for winger

Date published: 30 January 2012

LATE NEWS: KEANU Marsh-Brown could be pushed straight into Athletic’s line-up tonight for the crucial Johnstone’s Paint Trophy clash against Chesterfield.

The 19-year-old winger, released by Fulham in November, successfully came through a two-week trial at Boundary Park and has joined on a contract running to the end of the season, with an option for a further year.

Scorer of the winning goal for MK Dons against Athletic on the final day of last season — he also impressed during the earlier goalless draw at stadium:mk — Marsh-Brown may start on one of the flanks for Paul Dickov’s men tonight, as they bid to outgun the Spireites.

A goal behind after losing the first leg 2-1, among the 19-man squad bidding to turn that deficit around is striker Robbie Simpson, who has finally become a full-blooded Athletic player.

Simpson, who it is hoped will overcome a hamstring injury to feature, has agreed a permanent deal with Athletic running up to the end of the season.

Also in the running to play tonight are all three of the other players who have recently been receiving treatment, Dean Furman (knee), Zander Diamond (neck) and James Wesolowski (shoulder).

There is no place for Luca Scapuzzi, who has returned to Manchester City after the end of his loan spell, or Reuben Reid, who is yet to regain match sharpness.

Athletic (from): Cisak, Lee, Mvoto, Tarkowski, Black, Morais, Wesolowski, Adeyemi, Taylor, Simpson, Kuqi, Bouzanis, Diamond, Furman, Smith, Parker, Winchester, Mellor, Marsh-Brown.

Chairman backs squad to fire, What a laugh and Nero Corney strikes yet again, no need for further signings and no need to do something for the few fans we have left. Is this man for real?, since he took over this club has done nothing but go down hill, and what few fans we have this season might also ride on into the sunset next. For the sake of say 100k he could have scooped 500k+. And as for Chris Taylor we are starting to carry him week in week out get rid on A FREE!

ANOTHER WINGER TO GO WITH THE OTHER 3 poor WINGERS WE ALREADY HAVE , HOW ABOUT SOMEBODY IN THE MIDDLE THAT KNOWS WHERE THE NETS ARE , NOW WE KNOW WHY HUDDERSFIELD DONT NEED SIMPSON , ALL I SEE ON MATCH DAYS ARE MORE AND MORE EMPTY SEATS ,STILL NEED TO WIN 8 GAMES TO STAY UP BUT WHOS GOING TO SCORE

absolutely right oldham scotland, its strikers we need not another winger, we are on the way down to div 2 , most of the players dont care they are out of contract at the end of the season or on lone, poor fans get taken for a ride again, less than 2,000 next season in div 2

A waste of money signing this new player as most of the fans still left will stop coming now there's nothing to play for! Bets against relegation anyone?

Another PD signing and no striker of quality. PD has run out of ideas. Please replace the Keep the Faith with I've had enough!
