NEIL JOY: big turnout from Carlisle would boost Athletic’s coffers.
CARLISLE United could fetch with them a huge army of fans to Boundary Park on Saturday.
The number making the trip from Cumbria — the fifth-most ‘local’ away game the Cumbrian outfit encounter all season in npower League One — may even eclipse the TOTAL number in attendance for some of Athletic’s other home matches this term.
“We have spoken to Carlisle and they tell us they have sold around 400 tickets so far,” said Athletic’s chief executive Neil Joy.
“They are expecting sales to pick up. From what they have told us, they expect to bring up to 4,000 here, so we are planning on that basis.”
Had Carlisle not managed to trounce relegated Exeter 4-1 at Brunton Park, another low turn-out beckoned at Boundary Park.
Carlisle can, in theory, still overhaul both Stevenage and Notts County in the race for the last play-off spot on the final day.
To get there, Greg Abbott’s team need to see off Athletic, while praying that other results concerning Boro and County go their way.
