We need new blood – boss

Date published: 14 January 2013

ATHLETIC boss Paul Dickov admitted reinforcements may be needed after seeing his side slip to home defeat against Brentford.

Two goals from Clayton Donaldson – a player the Scot chased for months last year – put paid to any hopes of building on feelgood factor brought by Jose Baxter's two-and-a-half-year contract.

Athletic looked badly short of creativity due in a midfield without Dean Furman, James Wesolowski and Cristian Montano.

Dickov said: "We looked thin on the ground, unfortunately, and we might need some new players.

“Some of the kids aren't ready to play yet and we are light on numbers, so we will see what can happen.

"It was very disappointing after last week. We know Brentford are a good team near the top of the table, but it is a game we felt we could win.

“I think we were lacklustre with and without the ball. Having said that, Dean Bouzanis hardly had a save to make.”

Dickov has reiterated the need for his charges to focus on the task in hand – climbing the League One table – rather than dwelling on the FA Cup fourth-round clash with Liverpool at the end of the month.

PD, for the moment at least, has the worst record of any Latics manager in the last 43 years. Indeed, of managers who have been in charge for at least 20 games, he has the worst record in Latics history!
The new blood should start with the manager.

Some of these kids will have to leave at the end of the season if they can't step it up then....! This was supposed to be their coming of age season....!

Yes your are right Paul, we do need new blood, starting with a new manager! This is getting ridiculous now, if this was Ronnie Moore or Dave Penney they would have gone by now. PD's comments on the OAFC website are becoming laughable, with the latest being that this latest debacle was a "nearly game"

yes after saturday we need at least 2 experienced players not kids a centre back and midfielder or striker or both.

The kids got pushed about all afternoon we need some gritty players like cliff byrne type

It's the players that play week in week out that have put us in our current league position. After all PD picks the team irrespective of results in the previous games. We are thin in terms of the squad but trying to divert the blame to young players to save his skin is a joke. You cant blame players that are sat in the stand or on the bench for losing PD. WE were losing before any changes were made. Why does PD not blame the starting 11

We need a leader like Gary Jones who is at Bradford doing his usual thing, organise and intimidate a good strong Pro!

Even with Furman and Weslowski we lack the physical strength to dominate the opposition. As for Montano he only gives 5mins a game often looking like he couldn't beat an egg never mind a full back!

Having read the posts i am in complete agreement that the likes of Mellor,Winchester, Tarkowski, Miller and Hughes have no chance of being given a chance to progress and prove them selves. The only outcome of not been given a chance is come the end of the season they will get picked up for sure by other clubs where they will have a better chance to show progress , which no doubt they will and leave PD red faced.
