Latics player search goes on
Date published: 16 January 2013
PAUL Dickov was today continuing his search for players to bolster Athletic’s lightweight midfield.
With skipper Dean Furman with South Africa in the African Cup of Nations and James Wesolowski serving a three-match ban, the Athletic boss was forced to turn to fringe players Youssouf Mchangama and Carl Winchester for last Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat by Brentford.
With Wesolowski serving the last game of a three-match ban during the Coventry game on Saturday and Furman not back for the immediate future, Dickov would like to bring in at least one midfielder before the weekend.
Athletic chief executive Neil Joy said: “It is no secret that the manager is looking around, but he would have to wheel and deal to bring in players.”
ATHLETIC have set a new date for their home npower League One fixture against Yeovil.
The match should have been played on Saturday, January 26 — the weekend of the FA Cup fourth-round tie against Liverpool. It will now be on Tuesday, February 5 (7.45pm).

hearing a lot about a cup match what about bringing in players and a coach to help us stay up or are we building a team for the 2nd div what do we do when we have lost to liverpool again we need points as well as money and someone to kick em up the backside for the abismal home form over the last 3 years , we live in hope as always
On January 2nd it was stated that Latics hoped to appoint an assistant the following week. I assume the guy they wanted has turned them down and now they are looking for someone who won't mind working for a rooky manager. I don't think an experienced coach would fancy that so that leaves us with the option of asking Philliskirk to do it until the end of the season. Alternatively we could get in a new manager!
I feel sorry for Winchester is he a midfield player?
Mid you I would like Tarkowski given a chance in central midfield, he has a good range of passes and can tackle his occasional mistakes could be covered by back 4 to leave him free to plays as well as possessing HEIGHT (sadly lacking all season). .
Let's face it if Liverpool play Gerrard and Shelby we will be missing height in middle. Please don't say Milligan and Henry were diminutive they were different class.
No worries - we can always rely on the LOAN ARRANGER to bring someone in that's not good enough - mind you now that Tonto has gone he may have to do it all on his own. Oops! Sorry that should read Paul Dickov and Gerry Taggart.
Will the season crumble after the Liverpool game? Will PD keep his job (regardless of results)? Will fans still 'love' (well, the blinkered brigade I mean)PD? Will there be enough pies to satisfy the dwindling crowds? Will SC 'see the light'? It's a sad situation.

Paul Scholes... your team needs you... stop messing about with that lot now... you've had your fun... get down to BP where you belong. Remember those days when you stood on the Chaddy End and watch Frankie Bunn and Neil Redfearn [players I've heard you namecheck before] well now its your turn! Its a shame he's cup tied... I'm sure he'd have liked to play and score against Liverpool!!!!
