Let’s put fans’ minds at ease — Worrall

DAVID Worrall wants Athletic to secure their league safety quickly - so fans can enjoy the final games of the season without worry.

Rotherham loan man Worrall acknowledges Athletic aren’t yet out of the woods of a dreaded drop to League Two, but the 23 year old is hoping his team can acquire the points they need — especially with four of the next six games at home.

He said: “There’s not much in it at all. If we were to just get two wins in a row you would see us in the top half and happy days. But two quick defeats and you could be getting dragged into the battle. We’ve got 12 games left, though, and to be honest I think we’ll easily secure safety.

“Hopefully we’ll make sure sooner rather than later, then the fans can have nothing to worry about in the final few games. We’ve still got to play a few teams that are in and around us, and maybe they’re the ones we need to put a bit more focus on. But we fancy ourselves against anyone.”

And that includes high-flying and long unbeaten outfit Preston, who arrive on Saturday for what promises to be a tasty Lancashire derby.

Former Bury ace Worrall added: “They’re flying near the top, and I’m not surprised they’re doing well because they’ve got a really good manager in Simon Grayson and quality throughout the squad.

They’re well organised, but we’re at home and if we can get everyone behind us, then why can’t we beat them? We’ve had a good week and we’ll go into Saturday in high spirits.
