We are not safe yet — Johnson

ATHLETIC may be five points clear of the bottom four with only two weekends of the season remaining — but Lee Johnson is taking nothing for granted ahead of Saturday’s trip to Carlisle.

A scoreless draw against Coventry yesterday extended Athletic’s unbeaten run to seven matches and pushed the club to 51 points.

But even with a four-team buffer between his side and an unlikely descent into the drop zone, plus the bonus of a game in hand, Johnson says he will not rest until safety is mathematically certain.

“It’s another important game and nothing is done yet,” he said of the upcoming trip to Brunton Park, where Carlisle have won only once in their last 10 games.

“It is a bit frustrating and it would be tough on us if we did end up being in trouble. There are a few teams below us and we have got to go to Carlisle and get a win.

“We are 85 per cent there, but anything can happen in football.”
