ROCK-steady George Elokobi expects exciting new Athletic team-mate Dominic Poleon to be a smash hit at SportsDirect.com Park.

Poleon (21) made an impressive debut in Saturday’s defeat of high-flying Fleetwood, just five days after signing from Leeds.

Defender Elokobi said: “Dom’s settled in really well and he was brilliant for us on Saturday. You can see how much running he does.

“Hopefully next week he’ll get his first goal for the club - and it will be a joy to see him do that.

“We know we have a lot of pace up front if we play the right ball. Jonathan Forte’s been unreal for us so far and long may that continue. But now we have Dom too – that’s a lot of pace. It puts defenders on the back foot. But we’re not getting carried away.”

Last weekend’s win was a third on the spin for revitalised Athletic, all secured without conceding a goal.

And while there is more of a threat going forward, shut-outs at the back have pleased former Wolves man Elokobi: “It spreads confidence in the team when you know you have a good base to build from. It means you know when to press and when to hold your ground and life is easier for the goalkeeper as well.”

THE search for additional firepower was set to continue today with the opening of the loan transfer window. It is believed Athletic hit-man Chris Porter remains on boss Lee Johnson’s radar.

THE Johnstone’s Paint Trophy second-round tie between Athletic and Barnsley at SportsDirect.com Park will take place on October 7 (7.30pm).
