Let me put Posh under the cosh - Philliskirk

DANNY Philliskirk is hoping to land a starting role at Peterborough. The two-goal hero of the Scunthorpe win wants to be in at the off against Peterborough on Saturday.

Despite Posh being in second place in the league, Philliskirk sees no reason why a repetition of the up-tempo second half against the Iron can’t result in a win.

But to be a part of the side manager Lee Johnson sends out, the 23 year old must avoid the fate of Athletic’s last four goal-getters. Jordan Bove, Jonathan Forte, James Dayton and Amari Morgan-Smith all failed to make the team after scoring in September, with only Forte’s absence due to injury.

If Philliskirk isn’t included at London Road, though, he says he won’t take it to heart: “I feel I have done all right this season,” said the forward, who scored 12 goals last season.

“I was in the right place at the right time to score twice against Scunthorpe. Hopefully, I have shown the manager what I can do and he will put me in the starting XI.

“It is up to him and I respect that. I just get on with things and you won’t see me sulk.”

Philliskirk’s hope is that with a pair of goals after a run of 19 games without scoring, he can enjoy a purple patch.

“Now I have got two goals, hopefully I can kick on,” he added. “If I keep getting into the right areas then more goals should follow. Football’s a strange game. You can get very frustrated, then 45 minutes later you can be over the moon. Next week, why can’t I go and score two again?”
