Crowd has a huge role to play - Johnson

LEE Johnson says Athletic’s next two matches are vital - and wants extra fans to come along to sing their hearts out for the cause.

The manager says tonight’s visit of Coventry, and Bradford on Saturday represent the club’s most important matches of the season so far.

Win both — or get at least four points — and Athletic could be looking at consolidating a spot around the top six in the league.

Johnson is hoping increased attendance for both games will help spur his side to success.

“We are very appreciative of all the fans who come,” he said. Over a thousand supporters travelled to the Chesterfield game.

“We are also very appreciative of those who tell their mates to come along, as that is going to be important as well. I can’t stress enough how important these two games are for us. They could define our season. Win, lose or draw we need the fans for those 90 minutes.”

Athletic have one new injury worry as they bid to take their unbeaten run to a dozen games.

Brian Wilson suffered a knock at the Chesterfield game and there is a question mark over his participation.

Genseric Kusunga is in pole position to step in at right back, as he did in added time at Chesterfield. Connor Brown could also slot back into the side.

Further upfield, eight-goal Jonathan Forte could remain in the side, as his ongoing knee condition seems to have settled down.

“His knee is probably in the best shape it’s been in for a couple of weeks,” Johnson said. “He’s an important player for us, so we are doing everything we can.”
