Lifelong fan Taylor calls time

RICHARD Taylor has officially resigned as a director at Athletic — exactly six months since stepping on to the board for the first time.

As revealed here last week, Taylor (30) took the decision to step down due to serious misgivings over the chase for striker Ched Evans.

An Oxford history graduate, Taylor was involved in the £80million plan to regenerate the old Boundary Park 10 years ago. On his return last July the Moorside-raised Taylor was to help to generate significant revenue from the new North Stand development. He is the second member of the board to resign in the aftermath of the issue.

Barry Owen stressed in a statement that his departure was unrelated to the Evans controversy.

The other official change to the board of four directors is the arrival of Anthony Gee. A close associate of chairman Simon Corney and owner of a football consultancy business, has been in regular attendance at Athletic games in recent seasons. He joins Corney, Ian Hill and Owen on the board.
