ATHLETIC manager Lee Johnson says his dad Gary will bounce back after being sacked by Yeovil Town on Tuesday

A local legend at Huish Park after guiding the Glovers from the Conference to League One between 2001-2005, Johnson Snr left the club for a second time with his struggling team bottom of the third tier, four points adrift of safety.

Johnson jnr said: “Dad’s pride will have taken a bruising, but he has had a fantastic career to date.

“He’s had a lot of success at Yeovil. He’s very sad because he has a lot of friends there, and I’m sure he would have got them out of trouble. But the powers that be made the decision and that’s football.

It’s a difficult job to do, but I think dad has got the majority of his decisions right in his career.”

While hoping his father will take some time out, he is also keen to see him at Athletic games while he mulls his next move.

“My dad is a strong character and he’s been in football a long time, so I’ve no doubt wherever he goes next he will be successful.”

Gary Johnson had been in charge of Yeovil for a second time since January, 2012.
