WELL DONE, SON . . . Lee Johnson congratulates goal scorer Carl Winchester. LEE Johnson was left savouring his most satisfying win of the season thanks to Carl Winchester's solo strike.
The midfield man scored for the second time in the current campaign six minutes from the end of normal time at Glanford Park.
Athletic controlled most of the game and carved out the best chances, ending the contest the stronger side and quickly putting to bed the disappointment of defeat at Barnsley four days earlier.
The collective effort of his men left Johnson targeting a consistent run to help firm up their place in the top six of Sky Bet League One.
“It was my favourite performance of the season,” said Johnson. “After the game last Tuesday I was really upset after the game and ripped into a couple of them. Then we had to show belief in them. Carl was one and he responded fantastically.
“It was always going to be a difficult game. They are a good side who have spent a bit of money and who brought in a £400,000 striker.
“We had to be vigilant and strong. Our substitutes gave us the bit of impetus we needed. I was really pleased for them.”
