JOSEPH Mills has been impressed with how swiftly Athletic’s reinforcements have become part of the team.

Goalkeeper Jake Kean, midfield schemer Jacob Mellis and livewire forward Rhys Murphy were all introduced in the current transfer window in addition to striker Conor Wilkinson, back in Oldham for a second loan.

Mills, tonight up against home-town club, Swindon - which he played for until he was 10 - says that such additions were essential for a club aiming for the top six.

“They have all settled in quickly. Speak to any of those players and they will say they have come into a good squad,” said Mills, back in the starting line-up at Scunthorpe after a three-game ban.

“They have been welcomed and that is important - as it was for me when I came back at the start of the season.

“It is the kind of squad that can gel quickly. They have improved the squad and given us the depth any team vying for the play-off places needs.”

Though Mills doesn't know any of the Swindon players, he knows to expect a tough game tonight.

“They are doing really well and they like to pass the ball. They have some young, talented players who are hungry to do well. I like they way they play and they have a lot of threats. It will be a good game.”
