Dean Phill-ed with admiration

DANNY Philliskirk may not be in the prime form of his career, but the versatile player is one of the first names on Dean Holden’s teamsheet, he says.

That’s because - as for Lee Johnson before him - the caretaker boss knows the value of his work for the team, which often goes unremarked.

The 23 year old — who hasn’t scored since November - has been shoring up midfield through the pain of an ankle injury. At Port Vale he even played as a right winger in the second half in an attempt to stifle the home side.

Men like Philliskirk and Mike Jones - on the left of midfield - are a manager’s dream, Holden says.

“They are the players most likely to stay in the team because they can go out and do the job you ask of them,’ Holden said. “You don’t want the superstar one week then nothing for the next two weeks. It’s about consistency.
