YEOVIL 2 ATHLETIC 1

TEN-MAN Athletic succumbed to a second loss of the season to bottom-of-the-table Yeovil after a second-half turnaround at Huish Park.

Carl Winchester had given his caretaker boss Dean Holden a lead in the opening period with a left-footed shot after a rare neat move from the outplayed visitors.

But Joel Grant equalised after the break after Adam Morgan's shot had rebounded back off the inside of the far post.

And after Brian Wilson was sent off for picking up two yellow cards, powder-puff Athletic succumbed to an added-time strike.

Athletic allowed Grant to run and run into the penalty area and as the ball came loose, substitute James Hayter slid in to convert from close range.

Holden named an unchanged line-up from the side that saw off Port Vale 1-0 four days earlier.

But it was the bottom-of-the-table hosts, bolstered by a heavy wind in the first half, who began the game the stronger by a distance.

Stephen Arthurworrey headed one over the top and Morgan was off-target with an effort from an cute angle before Jake Kean was forced into two very sharp saves.

First the giant Arthurworrey's header at the far post was pushed out by the goalkeeper and seconds later, Goziue Ugwu hammered an effort towards the near post that required a flying stop.

Probably the best chance for the Glovers fell to Kieffer Moore. Left alone in the middle of goal eight yards out, he failed to keep his header down.

And after Winchester had one sight which he dragged only a foot wide on a rare Athletic foray, he went one better. Jonathan Forte was released down the right channel, Mike Jones flicked it round the corner and Winchester did very well to adjust his body to turn and fire back across goal to score with his left.

The visitors started the second half on the front foot and looked comfortable, to the extent that Yeovil fans started audibly barracking their side.

The equaliser came out of very little. Morgan was shown inside from the right and smashed a 20-yard drive against the inside of the far post. Grant was the only man following in and he slotted home as Athletic's defenders looked longingly for an offside flag that failed to arrive.

Yeovil had the impetus in a scrappy affair and Holden tried to get his side going by introducing Conor Wilkinson for the ineffective Forte.

Brian Wilson, earlier booked for a silly touchline spat with Josh Sheehan, brought down the same man as Yeovil broke in the 78th minute and when the ball went out, referee Lee Collins brandished a red.

Sam Foley almost netted with a shot which was somehow blocked on the line, after Grant was left unmarked from a short corner to provide the cross.

But Yeovil's heavy pressure paid off when Hayter, so often Athletic scourge, pounced with a purpose sorely missing from Holden's side.

Liam Kelly netted at the death with a header which was disallowed for an earlier push. It would have been far more than Athletic merited had it stood.
