Manager interviews will not shift Dean’s focus as Crewe test looms large

DEAN Holden is happy to be working towards positive results for Athletic against a background of manager interviews.

The boss, who was confirmed as being in charge until the end of the season this week, accepts that his name will only be in the frame longer-term if Athletic start to quickly pick up points in Sky Bet League One — starting, ideally, at Crewe tomorrow.

Holden (35) insists that Athletic’s quest to finish the campaign on a high is much bigger than being about one person, though.

“The board have been quite relaxed about it,” said Holden, who spoke to chairman Simon Corney, who is in the United States, on Sunday.

“They have come out and said they are still interviewing prospective candidates, which I am comfortable with.

“I am sure I will be speaking to the board at some point about my own future. Ultimately, it is not about me really.

“But if results don’t go our way on the pitch they will probably look to change things anyway.

“I am quite comfortable with the reality of it.”

Scott Sellars and Mark Yates both spoke to Athletic prior to Holden’s graduation from caretaker
