Sky Blues boss targets Ricoh lift-off

TONY Mowbray is aiming to cash in now that the odds have shifted at the only ground in Sky Bet League One with its own on-site casino.

The chips have been stacked against Coventry recently at the Ricoh Arena, with Saturday’s 1-0 win over Colchester representing only their second at home in the league since October.

Mowbray — as with opposite number Dean Holden, in charge until the end of the season — is now hoping to step further away from the bottom-four zone that Sky Blues have flirted with perilously this term.

But he also knows that even on a difficult playing surface, shared with rugby union side and ground owners Wasps, Athletic’s players are capable of passing their way to progress against a side they hammered 4-1 on a relatively lush surface at SportsDirect.com Park earlier this season.

“We want to find a way of maintaining the intensity in our game,” said Mowbray, who saw his men claim three points on Saturday thanks to James O’Brien’s effort.

“We’ll have to look at the opposition and see what potential problems they could pose for us.

“Oldham have got some good technical midfield players who can pick passes around you. And yet they are not that many points ahead of us so they are not miles better than us.

“We have another opportunity now against Oldham. Hopefully the victory will alleviate any uncertainty about the Ricoh and hopefully we can follow it up.”
