Freedom to be creative is key for scorer Philliskirk

ATHLETIC forward Danny Philliskirk hopes his new-found edge can reap further rewards right through to the end of next season.

After solving the mystery over his disappearing energy levels and dizzy spells - it was a low blood sugar level - the 24 year old has been back on top of his form once again.

Sharp in the Sheffield United draw, the first of back-to-back games against former clubs, he made it two goals in as many outings against Coventry with a clever flicked finish with his left foot.

It was Philliskirk’s sixth goal of the season — and his first in the league since that last effort against the Sky Blues.

“Dean Holden always tells us to be creative. I don’t know why but Carl Winchester was in 20 yards of space, so he was played in down the line by Mike Jones and it was a great ball in.”

Philliskirk has found joy again, operating in the “hole” behind a main striker. A similar system could be used against Chesterfield tomorrow and the Athletic man hopes that once again, the team can put on a positive showing against a side still gunning for play-off glory.

“They are a very good side, but we always seem to play really well against the big teams as we did against Bristol City and Sheffield United,” Philliskirk added.

“Away at Chesterfield, we probably deserved to win after playing really well on the day. They come here and we have nothing to lose. Hopefully, we can play with freedom and express ourselves.

“We want to enjoy being out there and hopefully, we can string a few wins together between now and the end of the season.”
