Holden’s focus on final game

DEAN Holden admits his days may be numbered at Athletic, depending on the club’s chosen managerial route..

His last game in charge of the team is on Sunday against Peterborough (12.15pm kick-off) and so far, Holden’s record includes three victories from 14 matches.

Absences of key players haven’t helped him, and while he has impressed with his approach to the role, results have been lacking amid his depleted resources.

Holden is set to meet the club’s directors soon, but for now is determined to sign off the campaign with a three-point haul against a former club.

“I will give it my best for the next three days, then we will sort that out after the season,” he said.

“But first it’s really important we don’t take any attention away from the game on Sunday. For me, it’s a massive game. Everyone deserves to go out with three points. There has been a lot going on this year and we want to send everyone off with a smile on their face.”

The future of Holden, contracted as a first-team coach before becoming temporary manager after Lee Johnson’s departure, could be under threat if an outside candidate decides to bring in his own staff.

“We’ll see what happens and continue to speak about the best way to move the club forward,” he said.

Sunday’s game will feature a round of applause in the sixth minute in honour of legendary former Peterborough player and manager Chris Turner, who died this week.
