Gills fire five-goal warning

ATHLETIC be warned: Gillingham are firing on all cylinders ahead of Saturday’s clash between the two sides at the Priestfield Stadium.
Justin Edinburgh’s team has been invincible in its five home games this season, and on Tuesday night shrugged off back-to-back away defeats with a thumping 5-1 win against stunned Fleetwood.
Despite getting off to a terrible start the Gills, currently third in the table, were 4-1 up by half time.
Rory Donnelly scored his first two goals of the season, while Chelsea loanee Jordan Houghton and defender John Egan also registered. Sub Cody McDonald wrapped up a big win late in the second half.
Assistant boss David Kerslake saluted a team that clearly doesn’t lack character: “We knew there would be knocks as in the previous two games, but it was about how we responded. Against Fleetwood was the perfect way.”
