A GOAL from Nasser El Khayati handed Athletic another home defeat.
The Dutch winger struck in the 17th minute to win the contest for the well-organised visitors and despite creating opportunities to level, David Dunn's men lacked the vital finishing touch on a flat afternoon.
Athletic started brightly and almost netted after 15 minutes when Danny Philliskirk's shot deflected off the heels of Dominic Poleon only a foot wide of goal.
But with their first attack of any note two minutes later, the visitors held the lead. On the break, Mark Duffy's pass was controlled by Nasser El Khayati who finished neatly underneath David Cornell.
Philliskirk saw a header saved low by McLaughlin and just before half-time, Jay Fulton came close to levelling. Cameron Dummigan's cross was met by the head of the midfielder and was looping over McLaughlin, but for the Albion goalkeeper's agility in tipping the ball onto the top of the crossbar.
Poleon had a good opportunity to score with a far-post header which he flashed wide of the target early in the second half.
Mark Yeates ended a run with a shot he pulled a couple of feet wide and Mclaughlin was again called into action to tip away a Joseph Mills shot which was heading in.
But despite plenty of pressure late on, it is now only one win in the last 13 games at home for Athletic.
