Green looks to broaden his horizons

GEORGE Green has his eyes on a future in the game overseas, with a stint in Saudi Arabia a possibility.

The 19-year-old left Athletic last week by mutual consent, having only signed a two-year deal back in June, citing personal concerns.

He has since joined non-league outfit Ossett Albion, captaining the side to a 3-2 win over Mossley on his debut in the Evo-Stik League Doodson Cup.

Green, who regulations prevent from joining a team in the Conference or Football League until the transfer window re-opens on January 1, says he has had some interest from Ireland, Malta and Saudi.

But for now, he simply wants to get back playing.

“I just want to enjoy it again,” Green said in an interview with Radio Yorkshire.

“I do have plans to go abroad at some point, but for the time being I have got my head down and I want to enjoy my football and do my best at Ossett.”

As for leaving Athletic so early in his stint at the club, following on from departing Everton in the summer, Green stressed it was his choice to make the break.

“I had good intentions there (at Oldham),” he added.

personal issues

“Then as I posted on twitter a few days back, I had a lot of personal issues and they gave me quite a bit of time off.

“However, I wanted a bit more off and wanted time out to get my head straight.

“So that’s the reason why I left Oldham.”
