DAVID Dunn is out damage the hopes of an old mentor when he takes Athletic to Chesterfield tomorrow.

The 35-year-old used to train under the watch of Dean Saunders at Blackburn, when the former Wales striker was part of the coaching team under Graeme Souness.

Now, having watched them in FA Cup action earlier this week, Dunn reckons he has formulated a strategy that can get one over on Spireites boss Saunders tomorrow.

And he hopes to keep up that unbeaten run away from home running a while longer.

“I went to FC United to watch the game,” Dunn said of Monday’s tie, in which a strong Chesterfield outfit eased to a 4-1 victory. “We have had them watched a couple of times.

“We have our game plan in place and feel it can work, so we will go with that.

“I know Dean quite well from our time at Blackburn together, so it will be good to see him.

“We all want to play the best football we can, but it is about getting results so sometimes you may have to tweak that a bit.

“Away from home this season, we are unbeaten. So it is important we go there and keep that run going.

“We need to improve our home form, as that will be the key to how well we do this season.”

After Chesterfield, Athletic have three straight matches at SportsDirect.com Park: Mansfield at home in the FA Cup first-round replay on Tuesday, the visit of Barnsley on Saturday, November 21, and Southend on Tuesday, November 24.
