DAVID Dunn has taken to social media over his dismissal as Athletic’s manager, arguing that he had an experienced assistant lined up at the start of his reign but was “refused” permission to bring him in.

Dunn (36) was dismissed as boss in advance of the Bradford game, along with sidekicks Dean Holden and Keith Brown, and John Sheridan appointed as the club tries to dig its way out of the relegation zone.

On his twitter account, Dunn light-heartedly made a quip about “last picks on the playground

running football” while also saying that right now “everyone needs to get behind Shez and the players”.

On the topic of criticising what he felt were unhelpful supporter chants at Chesterfield, Dunn said that “the group of players I had don’t respond well to that”.

Summing up his four-month stay as manager, which took in 20 games, Dunn said: “Made mistakes, but an invaluable experience! Right man, wrong time!”

And when asked which Athletic players he believes will go on to make it at a higher level, he picked out skipper Liam Kelly and rookie defender Theo Vassell.
