Athletic manager John Sheridan has stressed he won’t “panic buy” despite a player market setback.

Sheridan hoped to have a new player in this week - but injury has prevented the move. While he hopes to redress things for the Bury game tomorrow, his intended targets - a new left-sided centre-back, midfield player and striker may have to be put on hold.

“I could have had three or four in by now. But I want to make sure they are the right ones for the way we are going to play and for what we are trying to do — stay in this division,” said Sheridan.

“I’m looking for a centre-back, a midfield player and a striker. I feel we need to look at those areas to make us stronger.”

Right-back Cameron Dummigan is facing a couple of weeks on the sidelines, having picked up an injury behind his lower knee at Bradford.

He won’t play tomorrow, but Sheridan has promised to make changes off the field to get back to tried and trusted methods.

New assistant manager Peter Shirtliff will be on the bench for the first time at Shrewsbury on Tuesday night.

“There are things I will change, to the way they were before when I was here, which I feel was a really good job.”
