CURTIS Main believes he is reaping the rewards for an extended run of first-team action.

The powerful on-loan Doncaster striker has been in excellent form lately, bagging four goals in his last six appearances for Athletic and putting in some eye-catching displays.

Main (23) had only enjoyed just over an hour of action at the Keepmoat Stadium since October, prior to his move to Athletic two months ago.

And his return to full speed has coincided with a sharp upturn in Athletic’s fortunes, experiencing only three losses in 16 outings as John Sheridan’s side have climbed the table.

INVOLVED

“It is definitely nice to be playing and involved in the team on every match day,” said Main, who remains under contract with relegation-threatened Doncaster for next season.

“When I joined, I had been out for quite a few months with injuries so I wasn’t sharp or match-fit.

“It took me a little bit of time to get up to full speed, but I feel like with every game that has passed my fitness has improved and I have been getting back to playing as I know I can.

“It has been a difficult time for Oldham this season but since I have joined, it has been nothing but positive.

“We have managed to pick up quite a few results and turn things around quite drastically.”

Though Athletic have already confirmed their status for 2016-17, Main says there will be no slacking in the final two matches at Millwall on Saturday and then at home to Coventry the following Sunday, May 8 (12.30pm kick-off).

“Since the manager has come in, it’s always been about getting as many points as we can and building momentum,” he added.

“Nobody wants to be in the situation we have been in. We want to carry on picking up points and show what the squad is capable of, building for next year.

“I can’t imagine we will be taking our foot off the gas.”
