Aiming for a final-day flourish

WE WANT to end the season on a high against Coventry, not least because we were disappointed with the goals we conceded at Millwall.

The first came early in the game from a corner kick and in truth, the other two were not pretty either.

REASONS

Millwall needed to win the game for their own reasons near the top of the table but even though we were already safe, there is no doubt we went into the game positively and looking to get three points.

It could have been a different story had we taken our opportunities. I would say we could easily have scored two goal, if not three.

But it was one of those days where nothing at all seemed to go right in front of goal.

Looking at Millwall, I would probably fancy either them or Walsall to go up through the play-offs. Ironically, we have taken four points from Walsall this season and it goes to show that it is difficult to predict the outcome of games in this division.

In the run-in when we were still in the bottom-four, you looked at the fixtures and we had some tough games coming up. Yet we managed to get good results against sides near the top — at Wigan and Burton and at home to Gillingham, for example — and it often works out that we seem to play better against that sort of opposition.

Our goal on Sunday against Coventry is to put on a show that will send our supporters home with smiles on their faces.

We trained as normal this week, having had a few days off after beating Crewe. The manager certainly won’t let us ease up now.
