GOAL . . . Peter Clarke (left)
CHARLTON 1, ATHLETIC 1
PETER Clarke was the hero of the hour as Athletic rescued a point in a game they dominated at The Valley.
The skipper nodded home a Paul Green free-kick after 83 minutes to earn a point for Stephen Robinson – but the Athletic boss will be disappointed it wasn't all three.
Freddie Ladapo somehow failed to convert a Green centre in the 31st minute, his point-blank effort blocked by a defender nine minutes after Josh Magennis had opened the scoring with a low drive from an acute angle.
Ladapo pulled another shot wide when well-placed and though Athletic pushed hard, it looked as if they would not be rewarded prior to Clarke's intervention.
Ademola Lookman hammered against a post from 25 yards out two minutes after the goal but though both sides pressed for a winner, it wouldn't come.
